Report of Regents Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACCES)/P-12 Education Joint Meeting Committee to The Board of Regents

Your P12 Education/ACCES Joint Committee held its scheduled meeting on May 16, 2016.  All members were present.

MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION

National External Diploma Program (NEDP) – Your committee was provided with a panel presentation on the National External Diploma Program (NEDP).  Information was presented on what the NEDP is, how it works, what outcomes it has, and why it resonates with communities in New York State.

Peter Swerdzewski, Assistant Commissioner of Assessment, Standards, and Curriculum, presented on what the NEDP is and how it works in New York State.  He discussed the process and flow, skill assessment, diagnostic phases, accommodations, review phase and staff roles of NEDP.

Sandi Vito, Executive Director of 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds, presented on why NEDP resonates with their members, what having a high school diploma means to their members and the value to the 1199SEIU Fund.

Lolieta Thomas and Fay Lee, students who were sponsored by 1199SEIU to receive their NEDP, presented on their individual experience with the NEDP and how the 1199SEIU fund helped them.
