Madam Chancellor and Colleagues: Your P-12 Education Committee recommends, and I move, that the Board of Regents act affirmatively upon each recommendation in the written report of the Committee's deliberations at its meeting on July 16, 2012, copies of which have been distributed to each Regent.

MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION

Enrollment and Retention Targets – The Committee discussed the final proposed methodology as described in Attachment B to prescribe enrollment and retention targets for students with disabilities, English language learners, and students who are eligible applicants for the free and reduced price lunch program, pursuant to the May 2010 amendments to the New York State Charter Schools Act, specifically, Education Law §2851(4(e) and §2852(9-b).  The Board of Regents will take action on this item in the full Board meeting.  [P-12 (D)

Common Core and Social Studies Frameworks – The Committee was provided an update on the implementation of the Common Core standards, including discussion on vendors, Network Teams and AP STEM professional development.  The draft Social Studies frameworks were also discussed, including the alignment of Social Studies with the Common Core.  Due to time constraints, a more in-depth conversation on this topic will be brought back at the September Regents meeting.
