Background Information

Under Chapter 33 of the Laws of 2002, the Board of the Regents appointed members to the Interim Board of Education of the Roosevelt Union Free School District.  If any vacancy occurs in these appointed positions, the Board of Regents is authorized to appoint a new member to the Interim Board.

In September 2008, Regents appointee Carl DeHaney, Jr. resigned effective October 31, 2008.  A public announcement of the vacancy was posted and five applicants applied for the position.  A Board of Regents interview panel, composed of Regents Tilles, Cofield and Rosa, conducted interviews of final candidates on November 13, 2008 and recommended Ms. Wilhelmina Funderburke to serve the remainder of the term of the resigning board member.  Ms. Funderburke has been an active member of the Roosevelt community for over 20 years, including president of the Roosevelt Library Board, member of the Chamber of Commerce, chairperson of the Roosevelt Revitalization Group as well as a range of other activities to enhance opportunities for Roosevelt students and their families.
