Issue for Discussion
Has the Board of Regents reached consensus on the intent of the proposed amendment to section 100.2 (c) of the Regulations of the Commissioner relating to injury prevention and life safety education?

Required by State statute.
Proposed Handling
This question will come before the Regents EMSC-VESID Committee on March 20, 2006.
Procedural History
Not applicable.
Background Information
The proposed amendment to section 100.2 (c)
is necessary to conform the Commissioner’s Regulations to Chapter 242 of the
Laws of 2005, and requires school districts to add a course of instruction in
injury prevention and life safety education to existing curricula.  The added course content will assist
adolescents to understand how to minimize the risk of injury and respond
appropriately if facing a life-threatening situation.
A Notice of Proposed Rule Making will be published in the State Register on March 15, 2006.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Regents EMSC-VESID Committee reach consensus on the intent of the proposed amendment prior to taking action at its May meeting.
Timetable for Implementation
Upon approval by the Board of Regents, the proposed amendment would become effective June 15, 2006.
