SUMMARY:
The Board of Regents is authorized to approve proposed revisions to existing charters. We have received a proposed amendment to the charter of the Global Concepts Charter School in Lackawanna. The proposed revision would dissolve the School Advisory Council and replace it with a Leadership Team, which would consist of school administration, faculty, and staff. The existing Parent Communication Council will be revised to consist of parents of children attending the charter school, will be open to all parents and not just members of the Council, will act as an advisory team to the principal, and will provide a written report to be a part of the principal’s monthly report to the Board of Trustees.
VOTED: That the Board of Regents approve the proposed revisions to the charter of the following charter school based upon the information contained in the attachment and upon a finding by the Board of Regents that: (1) the revisions meet the requirements set out in Article 56 of the Education Law, and all other applicable laws, rules, and regulations; (2) the revisions (together with the other terms of the charter)
will permit the charter school to operate in an educationally and fiscally sound manner;
and (3) the revisions (together with the other terms of the charter) are likely to improve student learning and achievement and materially further the purposes set out in subdivision two of section twenty-eight hundred fifty of Article 56 of the Education Law:
