The Cultural Education Committee held its scheduled meeting on September 8, 2025. All members were present except Regents Shino Tanikawa and Keith B. Wiley who were excused.
Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr., Vice Chancellor Judith Chin, and Regents Roger P. Catania, Patrick A. Mannion, Seema Rivera, Brian J. Krist, and Felicia Thomas-Williams attended the meeting but did not vote on any action.
MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION
Presentation on the Role and Impact of the New York State Research Library Presentation - Lauren Moore and Sarah McFadden provided an overview of the New York State Library’s Research Library, its foundational history, core services, and evolving role in supporting public access to information. Established in 1818, the Research Library is one of the oldest in the U.S. and serves as a vital resource for New York State government, researchers, and the public. The presentation highlighted key services including acquisition and cataloging, reference and public access, digitization efforts, and stewardship of world-renowned collections.
Staff also discussed how the Library leverages its infrastructure to connect New Yorkers to essential legal, historical, scientific, and cultural materials, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to information access and preservation.
