Report of Regents Cultural Education Committee to The Board of Regents

Your Committee on Cultural Education had its scheduled meeting on April 11, 2022. Regent Roger Tilles and Regent Frances Wills, Co-Chairs of the Cultural Education Committee, submitted the following written report. In attendance were committee members: Regent Tilles, Co-Chair, Regent Wills, Co-Chair, Regent Cea, Regent Reyes and Regent Turner. Regents, in addition to Cultural Education Committee members, in attendance were:  Chancellor Young, Regent Norwood, Regent Cashin, Regent Mittler, Regent Ferrer, and Regent Tanikawa. Also in attendance were: Commissioner Rosa, Senior Deputy Commissioner Baldwin, Executive Deputy Commissioner Cates-Williams, and Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs Morton-Bentley.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

Co-Chairs Regent Tilles and Regent Wills welcomed everyone.

Proposed Amendments of Sections 90.3, 90.14, 90.18 and Repeal of Section 90.19 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Relating to State Aid for Public Library Systems, School Library Systems and Reference and Research Library Resource Councils 

Mark Schaming, Deputy Commissioner for Cultural Education, presented proposed Amendments to Commissioner’s regulations relating to State aid for public library systems, school library systems and reference and research library resource councils. 

The New York State Museum: Why We Collect – Collections that Represent New York’s Natural History 

State Museum scientists Dr. Robert Feranec, Dr. Jeremy Kirchman, and Dr. Lisa Amati presented examples from the Museum’s collections that represent New York State’s natural history.
