REGENTS COMMITTEE

ON PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

December 14, 2010

            Your Professional Practice Committee held its scheduled meeting on December 14, 2010.  All Committee Members were present.   Chancellor Merryl H. Tisch was also present, but did not vote on any case or action.

            ACTION ITEMS

Professional Discipline Cases

            Your Committee recommends that the reports of the Regents Review Committees, including rulings, findings of fact, determinations as to guilt, and recommendations, by unanimous or majority vote, contained in those reports which have been distributed to you, be accepted in 4 cases.  In addition, your Committee recommends, upon the recommendation of the Committee on the Professions, that 35 consent order applications and 2 surrender applications be granted.  [PPC EXS 1-3]

These recommendations are made following the review of 41 cases involving fourteen licensed practical nurses, eight registered professional nurses, three licensed practical nurses who are also registered professional nurses, two dentists, two dental hygienists, two certified dietitian/nutritionists, two respiratory therapists, one certified public accountant, one licensed clinical social worker, one nurse practitioner, one pharmacy, and one veterinarian.

Public Accountancy Regulations

VOTED: That section 70.10 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education be added, as submitted, effective January 5, 2011.

VOTED: That section 70.10 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education be added, as submitted, effective December 17, 2010, as an emergency action upon a finding by the Board of Regents that such action is necessary for the preservation of the general welfare to timely implement the provisions of Chapter 651 of the Laws of 2008, by ensuring that the proposed amendment is in effect no later than January 1, 2011. MOTION FOR ACTION BY FULL BOARD

            Madam Chancellor and Colleagues:  Your Professional Practice Committee recommends, and we move, that the Board of Regents act affirmatively upon each recommendation in the written report of the Committee's deliberations at its meeting on December 14, 2010, copies of which have been distributed to each Regent.

Regents Oversight of Foreign Medical Schools – Continuation of the consideration of the recommendations resulting from the discussions of the study regarding the oversight of the didactic and clinical education of the 14 dual-campus International Medical Schools that the Department has approved for purposes of long-term clinical clerkships and licensure.
