            Your P-12 Education Committee and Standards Work Group held a joint meeting on December 14, 2010.  All members were present. 

MATTERS NOT REQUIRING BOARD ACTION

Update on the Common Core State Standards – The Committee discussed recommended additions to the Common Core State Standards for ELA and Math.  The recommendations come following a five-week period of statewide public feedback responded to by over 800 teachers, parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders.  A survey is currently underway seeking comments on the PreK standards.  Survey results will be analyzed and necessary edits made based on public input.  The Committee discussed an online Request for Information due at the end of the month, the results of which will shape the Request for Proposal for development of Curriculum Models.  Also discussed was the timeline for development and implementation of the curriculum models for PreK-12 ELA and Math and the timeline for integrating the Common Core into our State assessments.  In January, staff will present two sets of new PreK-12 standards (ELA and Math), which include the Common Core and NYS standards, and a summary of the public survey data.   [P-12/SW (D) 1]
