Required by State regulation.
Proposed Handling
This question will come before the Higher Education Committee at its June 2008 meeting where it will be voted on and action taken. It will then come before the full Board at its June 2008 meeting for final action.
Procedural History
Terms for members of the State Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching are set forth in Regents Rule 3.14. The Board of Regents appoints members to four-year terms, with the exception of the teacher education student member, who is appointed to a two-year term. Board co-chairs are appointed for two-year terms.
The terms of six members on the Standards Board expire as of June 30, 2008. Four of these members are eligible for and are being recommended for reappointment to the Board, each for an additional four-year term. In addition, the term of one of the Board co-chairs has expired and she is being recommended for reappointment to a two-year term as co-chair.
Background Information
The following members are recommended for reappointment: Cheryl Freedman (public member), Eric R. Gidseg (teacher member), Tira J. Randall (school administrator member), and Frank Scelsa (teacher member). Debra A. Colley (higher education member) is being recommended for re-appointment as co-chair.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the Board of Regents approve the following reappointments to the State Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching: Cheryl Freedman (public member), Eric R. Gidseg (teacher member), Tira J. Randall (school administrator member), and Frank Scelsa (teacher member), each be appointed to a four-year term beginning July 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2012; and that Debra A. Colley (higher education member) be reappointed to a two-year term as co-chair beginning July 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2010.
Timetable for Implementation
Members’ terms will begin July 1, 2008.
