SUMMARY:

SUMMARY:

The members of the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries are appointed by the Regents.  The Council is broadly representative of libraries and statewide constituencies served by the New York State Library.  The Council advises officers of the State Education Department in the development of comprehensive statewide library and information programs and makes recommendations to the Regents concerning policy for the implementation of the program.  It assists in the evaluation of programs and advises on matters on which the Department may seek counsel.  The Council assists in interpreting library needs to the Department and in interpreting Department programs and services to their organizations and constituencies.  Recommendations for appointment to the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries take into account the diversity of the population of New York State, geographic distribution and ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the Council.  I recommend that the Regents take the following action:

VOTED:  That Ginnie Cooper, Ellen Bach and Norman Jacknis be appointed to the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries beginning October 1, 2004 and ending September 30, 2009.  That Timothy Johnson be appointed to fill an unfulfilled term beginning October 1, 2004 and ending September 30, 2007.
