Anthony S. Bottar

Anthony S. Bottar, Onondaga, was elected effective April 1, 1996 to a five-year term as the Regent for the Fifth Judicial District and re-elected to additional five year terms,effective April 1, 2001 and April 1, 2006.

Regent Bottar graduated from the North Syracuse Central High School in 1968; received a B.A. from the University of Rochester in 1972; and a Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law and Jurisprudence of the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1976. He has been admitted to law practice in the State of New York in 1977; the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York in 1977; U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York in 1978; U.S. Supreme Court in 1989; and U.S. Claims Court in 1990.

His professional experience includes positions teaching social studies in Rochester, 1972-1973; Assistant Corporation Counsel, City of Syracuse Department of Law, Office of the Corporation Counsel, 1978-1982; Associate Counsel in the firm of Birnbaum, Manaker & Aquilio, Syracuse, 1982-1983; and Partner in the firm of Cherundolo, Bottar and McGowan, P.C., Syracuse, 1983 to now.

Regent Bottar has been involved intensively with education organizations in the community. His involvement includes positions as Trustee of the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education from 1988 to 1996, and as President of the Board of Education from 1989 to 1996; and as member of the Board of Directors of the Onondaga-Madison School Boards Association from 1994 to now.

He is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association; American Trial Lawyers Association; Onondaga County Bar Association; New York State Bar Association; and the American Bar Association.

Regent Bottar and his wife, Nancy Bottar, reside in North Syracuse. They are parents of a son, Michael Anthony Bottar.
